The Montgomery long-term silicone tracheostomy tube has an inner flange angled at 27 degrees, which ensures that the tube remains in the horizontal position after placement in the trachea. Due to this very short inner flange, which is only in contact with the anterior tracheal wall, irritation of the trachea is significantly reduced compared to conventional tracheostomy tubes. The cannula has a highly polished surface which promotes epithelialization of the tracheostoma. The correct cannula length is determined by measuring the stoma from the anterior tracheal wall to the outer stoma skin.
